About Attorney Donald D. Hiney

Don Hiney has been practicing law in San Diego county for the past  26 years.  He graduated Cum Laude from San Diego State University with a BA in sociology and received his Juries Doctorate from California Western School of Law in 1979.  Don began his practice as a general practitioner successfully litigating all types of cases including personal injury, medical malpractice, wrongful death, nursing home and elder abuse,  criminal defense, sexual harassment, wrongful termination and contract litigation (especially in the matters concerning real estate).

Over the years Don has had much trial experience doing what most attorneys never do - taking his cases to trial whenever it is necessary.  While many attorneys find trial work intimidating and avoid it at all costs, even to the detriment of the clients case, Don enjoys the challenge.  He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) whose main purpose is to foster improvement in the ethical and technical standards of practice in the field of advocacy to the end that individual litigants may receive more effective representation.   Only 1% of the attorneys in the United States are members of this organization.  An attorney must be nominated to member-ship by an attorney member.  The proposed member must have a minimum of 20 superior court trials and the nominating committee takes the time to research his or her credentials including ethical and moral conduct and standing with the state bar, etc.  Only after careful investigation does ABOTA make the offer of membership.  ABOTA also affords its members the opportunity to meet and get to know attorneys who are experts in all fields of litigation.  This enables Don to refer clients who have a case out of his fields of expertise to an attorney who can competently represent them.
