Recent Settlement: Wrongful Death
Fatal auto accident results in $1 million settlement
We brought a wrongful death action against the United States Department of Agriculture on behalf of the parents of their 22-year-old son (decedent) in his final year of college. The decedent was driving up the Angeles Crest Highway when an on-duty employee of the Department of Agriculture was driving a pickup truck down the mountain. When going around a blind curve the federal employee’s truck crossed over into the oncoming lane of traffic and collided with the decedent’s vehicle. The decedent suffered massive blunt force trauma and died from his injuries. Initially, the Department of Agriculture argued that the decedent had crossed into its employee’s lane. However, Mr. Hiney used a reconstruction expert to prove that the accident was the fault of the Department of Agriculture’s employee and obtained a settlement of $1,000,000 for our clients.
